This story is about childhood sweethearts that turns to serious love as they enter their early twenties. Then out of the blue she leaves him and never explains why. Ten years later she comes back to town to help her father sell his ranch and move to New York where she now lives. He doesn't want to go. he is a cowboy and that is his life.Of course, the hero, Mason, and the heroine get back together. She is very cautious because of the reason she left, hereafter referred to as the "issue". He begs her to tell him why she left him so long ago. She doesn't want to discuss it. They start to date but he knows that she is going to have to eventually tell him. She keeps putting it off. The hero is a very Alpha male. He takes control and he plays rough. She LOVES it, so no problem there. The story is interesting if you like cowboy love stories.
SPOILER,---SPOILER---SPOILER--I quit reading. Here is why. she refuses to tell him the "issue". They have several times when it comes up and she refuses to tell him, not wanting to spoil their time together. he begs her to tell him so he can understand what he did wrong and why. As a reader, you KNOW it was a misunderstanding and she was stupid to leave without giving him a chance to explain 10 years ago. But every tiime they get together it comes up and she puts off telling him. Trust me you are screaming in your head...TELL HIM ALREADY--good grief, it was not that big of a deal and could have been cleared up in 2 minutes but she waste 10 years and now all the time they have together with this hanging over her head? I just didn't get it and I got real TIRED of her. I was quickly getting to the point where I didn't care about her character at all. I did like the hero. He was a rough and tumble good ole country boy. Not stupid by any means, but definitely alpha. I think the story would have been so much better if they could have cleared up the misunderstanding and then got on with it.

You can tell a book by it's cover and this one is the usual romance porn with a trace of a story line. Gina our hero is neither strong or weak. Mason our hero never refers to her as anyone but G or Babe. The story line was repetitive. And no character was particularly likable. I would not read anything else from this author.
If the sex was taken out of this book there would be more blank pages than story..
I enjoy romance novels and I'm always looking for a new author or series to follow, so when I saw the book was free I thought I'd give it a chance. The writing is pretty good, the plot's a little weak and the characters...ugh. The first 40% of the book I wanted the heroine to either slap/hit or threaten to arrest the 'hero'. Consent issues. so many consent issues.

After breaking up 10 years ago and having both with broken hearts, the first time they meet again. I repeat the FIRST time they meet the 'hero' pushes her against a car in broad daylight in the middle of town and makes out with her. no 'hello' no words exchanged, just Neanderthal man Mason deciding to 'win' her back with sexual assault. Ugh. it's pretty much the same through out the first part of the book. he doesn't ask why they broke up, not really doesn't try to talk it out just has sex with her. it's unsettling. What bothers me the most? is this bothers NO one. not his family not hers, nor the townspeople not even other reviewers. the this day and age with sexual assault so talked about and victims having a lot much trouble getting any satisfaction it's disheartening to see sex used so casually. I will not be reading any other books in this series or by this author.
Authors, please give your readers credit for having a brain.The actual story was fairly decent but the repetitiveness was so distracting. I think most readers are fairly intelligent, they comprehend the points the author is making. It's this style of writing that keeps many of us from purchasing the next book of the series or recommending it.
I'd give it a 2.5. While I do applaud the author's ability to complete and publish novels, I think the quality of the writing reflects what I paid for it (zero). It's written at about a fourth grade level in my estimation (I read it in two days), and the dialogue is awful. People do not speak like that - especially the male characters. I can't really complain because I downloaded it for the purpose of brain-candy, and it sufficed as such.
This is not a true cliffhanger but the only way to see them truly happy is to read the next book. My problem with this story is on one hand the reader must accept that they live in a small town where everyone knows everything, but you also must accept that Guy Preston doesn't know that Gina and Mason are dating again. She has held a grudge against Mason for ten years without telling anyone the truth not even her best friend Shane, Mason's brother, that's a little much for me to swallow as a reader. I must admit I started skipping pages about halfway through because she was doing the same things again. She was supposed to be the smart woman Mason loved but she didn't prove she was smart to me. She didn't even offer for Mason to go back with her to New York for her showing but expected him to follow all the rules she laid down. The writing was good but I would not read the next book or read a book by this author again. I leave it open to the next reader to draw their own opinion because you may like this book.
